What is the zip code for Koh Phangan? (And what to do with it)
The postal code for Koh Phangan, Thailand is 84280. It covers the entire island and is part of Surat Thani Province in the south of Thailand.
That's the answer. The rest of this page is for people who actually need to send something here, because the zip code is only one piece of an address that works on the island.
How to write a Thai address that gets to Koh Phangan
Thai addresses are read the opposite direction from Western ones, smallest to largest. For mail coming from outside Thailand, you can write it in Western order and it still works. Both of these formats are fine:
[Your name]
c/o Phangan Dream Villas
[Villa name or street, if known]
Haad Yao, Koh Phangan
Surat Thani 84280
Thailand
Or in the Thai-style local order:
[Your name]
[Villa name], Haad Yao
อ. เกาะพะงัน
จ. สุราษฎร์ธานี 84280
ประเทศไทย
The single most important line is 84280 plus Surat Thani (or สุราษฎร์ธานี). Without those, packages can sit at the Bangkok sorting center for a long time. Without the island name, they can also end up on Koh Samui by mistake. Always include both.
Where Koh Phangan sits in the Thai postal system
Koh Phangan is one of the three main islands of the Surat Thani archipelago, alongside Koh Samui (84140 and 84320) and Koh Tao (84360). Koh Phangan's single postal code 84280 covers every village and beach on the island, from Haad Rin in the south to Chaloklum and Thong Lang in the north. There's no separate code for Thong Sala, Sri Thanu, Haad Yao, or anywhere else. The post office is in Thong Sala.
Surat Thani Province as a whole uses postal codes in the 841xx to 843xx range. The province capital, Surat Thani city on the mainland, is 84000.
How mail delivery actually works on the island
Letter mail from the post office goes to the address you've written. Most villas don't have a Western-style mailbox at the gate, so the postman either drops it at the property's main door or leaves it with a neighbor. For our guests, we recommend addressing anything to the villa's name plus "Haad Yao" or whichever area, and we'll grab it.
For packages from international couriers (DHL, FedEx, UPS), the delivery is more reliable but slower than mainland Thailand. Expect three to seven extra days versus a Bangkok address. The courier will usually call before delivery, so include a Thai phone number on the shipping label if you have one. Without a callable number, packages sometimes go back to the depot and wait.
Thai domestic services like Kerry Express, Flash, and Thai Post Thailand reach the island in two to four days from anywhere in the country. They're cheaper than international couriers and they handle the last-mile delivery the same way (call, then drop).
What we tell guests who are shipping things to themselves
If you're coming to stay with us and want to ship things ahead (a SIM card, a piece of dive gear, a parcel from home), the safest path is:
- Address it to your villa name plus our area, with Surat Thani 84280, Thailand as the bottom line.
- Use our WhatsApp number (+66 91 883 8644) as the contact phone on the label so couriers can reach a real Thai number.
- Tell us the tracking number. Our on-island team can intercept it and hold it for your check-in if it arrives early.
Don't ship anything expensive to a villa with no one staying. It will either be returned to sender or held at the depot, and depots on the island close at five.
Small footnote on customs
Anything coming from outside Thailand worth more than 1,500 THB (around 45 USD) is subject to import duty and VAT. The courier usually pays it on your behalf and collects from you on delivery. For a SIM card or paperback book this isn't worth thinking about. For anything bigger, it's worth knowing the value declared on the label is what gets taxed.
Phangan Dream Villas manages around 30 holiday rentals on Koh Phangan, mostly clustered in Haad Yao on the west coast. If you're looking at the island for a stay, the full villa list is the place to start. If you're already booked and want to ship something ahead, just tell us on WhatsApp.
